NOTES FROM THE YOUTH MINISTER,

Sunday, August 15, 2010

This is very tough news to tell but in case someone missed my announcement at Mass, here it is:

Emily’s mother, Mary Scales, has suffered from an autoimmune disorder for six years and up until now has been able to manage the efffects.  But recently, Emily and I received news that her condition has gone from bad to worse.  Her realistic prognosis is that she has between six months and a years left to live.  Because of this news, we have made the very difficult decision to move to Houston, TX to be closer to her and the rest of the Scales family.  It is with great sadness that I am announcing my resignation from St. Thomas More but we believe this is the right thing to do for us and for the family.  I apologize for the promptness of our departure and for whatever stress or sadness may arise.  We didn’t exactly plan it this way.  My last day here is Sept 8 but before we leave here, I want to thank you all for the greatest of hospitality that you have shown us over the last 13 months.  We were aliens in a strange land and you welcomed us with open arms, as if we were one of your own.  Please keep us and the Scales family in your prayers.  We truly cannot thank you all enough for everything you have done for us.  We will truly miss this place and the great love that abounds here.

The LOCK-IN was an absolute blast!  People had tons of fun and some even enjoyed our Chapel Times ;-).  From the icebreakers (literally!) to the Jello-eating contest at 6 AM we had non-stop fun.  We had a scavenger hunt, catholic jeopardy, movies, video games, board games, kickball, frisbee, lightning.... did I miss anything?  You should definitely try to make the next LOCK-IN if you weren’t there this time.  It was a great time!  For pictures, go here.

Totus Tuus is now over and we are exhausted... but in a good way!  We had water fights, Q&A nights, an epic game of Mafia, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, tons of skits and even learned more about prayers and how to discover our vocation.  We had tons of fun, learned some things, and made some new friends.  Devon, Rachelle, Rebecca, and Nate did an awesome job and we really appreciate their efforts and enthusiasm.  Now it’s up to the youth to incorporate what they learned into their daily lives.  For pics, go here.
